What Is RTT Therapy?

"First you make your beliefs, and then your beliefs make you." — Marisa Peer

RTT is a form of hypnotherapy that aims to quickly get to the root cause of problems, rather than just treating symptoms. After years of working with clients week after week with the same problem, Marisa Peer, UK’s leading therapist, went on a journey to discover and find a method that really helps people overcome their problem by accessing the power of the mind. The mind is incredibly powerful and does what it thinks we want it to do so when we can access this power, and give it the right information, it will create the life we want.

The steps of RTT:

  1. Accessing the subconscious mind. Through hypnosis the client is taken back into the past to explore experiences that created limiting beliefs which are the  cause of the presenting problem.
  2. Identify the root cause: the scenes/experiences are explored to discover the limiting belief by looking at the feelings and meanings that led to the belief.
  3. Transform the beliefs: RTT uses powerful tools to reframe the limiting beliefs and heal from the experiences. Transforming the beliefs empowers the client and creates new neuro pathways that begin the freedom from the presenting problem.
  4. Install the new beliefs: A custom hypnotic recording is made to be listened to for 21 days that installs a new habit of thought, creating a lasting change and freedom from the past.
  5. Compassionate curiosity- as the client heals, they are move encouraged to be patient and aware of the changes that are happening within them. This leads the way to what needs to be healed.

RTT uses hypnotherapy to access the subconscious mind, or the inner mind, to discover the limiting beliefs that have created the problem and are keeping the problem alive. Using the subconscious mind, we reframe those limiting beliefs and the negative patterns associated with it. Clients LET GO of the past and move into the future of what they really want.

Created by Marisa Peer in the UK, RTT is an award-winning therapy that is specifically designed to get results. Marisa, with years of experience working with clients, sought to provide a solution that would help people achieve the outcomes they desired. She didn’t want clients to return week after week for the same issues. To solve this, she explored and combined the most effective tools from the mental health field to deliver fast, tangible results.

We are born free from limiting beliefs and emotional struggles, with a natural sense that we deserve to have our needs met — to be loved, cared for, cherished, and protected. However, somewhere along the way, life often doesn’t meet these needs. While our parents do their best, they can’t always fulfill all our emotional needs, which can create limiting beliefs. These beliefs shape how we see the world and navigate through it, leading to conflicts and struggles based on these perceived limitations.

The core issue often boils down to a limiting belief, and the three most common ones are:

  1. "I am not enough."
  2. "I am different."
  3. "It is not possible for me."

RTT works by accessing the subconscious mind to uncover the root cause of these problems and identify the limiting beliefs behind them. Once these beliefs are revealed, they can be reframed, changed, and released. When this process is done in hypnosis, new neural pathways are instantly formed, and the change is felt immediately.

“To be happy you have to make peace with your past, love the present, and feel so excited about the future.”  Marisa Peer

Think of limiting beliefs as weeds in the mind, taking up space that should be filled with your desires and purpose. RTT sessions remove these weeds and plant new, empowering seeds. Removing the weeds symbolizes letting go of past limitations, while planting new seeds represents installing fresh, positive beliefs. Each RTT session concludes with a customized recording that helps reinforce your new beliefs, helping you create the life you've always dreamed of.

RTT is known for delivering faster results compared to other therapeutic approaches. Some individuals may achieve lasting change in just one session, uncovering the root cause of their issue and releasing it. However, for others, it may take 1 to 3 sessions — or occasionally 1 to 5 — to fully achieve the desired outcome. Much like an onion, people have layers that need to be gently peeled away. As each layer is revealed, new insights may surface. Once all the layers are addressed, the desired emotions and behaviors naturally emerge.

RTT is referred to as “Life Changing”, or “freeing” and people move into feeling like their authentic, happy self, just the way the universe intended when they were created.

When you're ready for change and want real results, RTT (Rapid Transformational Therapy) offers a powerful solution. If other therapies haven't taken you where you want to go, RTT can be the breakthrough you're looking for. RTT is a solution-focused therapy designed to achieve lasting results in just one to three sessions. By integrating hypnotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, neuro linguistic programming, and psychotherapy, RTT delivers rapid and transformative change

Does RTT work?

While most therapy is designed to create a safe space for healing, to understand how the client feels and to provide coping skills, RTT was created to get results by going back into the past to understand the root cause of the problem and set it free. Just as the client created the problem, they have the power to set it free but they first need to understand why they even have the problem in the first place. Because of the pain in our lives, we create problems to somehow help us. These problems are created to do one of three things:

  1. Protect
  2. Punish
  3. Prioritize

Once this is understood, the client can heal from this cause and let it go, setting it free. RTT works because the problem is understood and pulled out by its deep roots, freeing the client of needing the problem in their life.

RTT works to get to the root cause of a problem within one to three sessions, sometimes five sessions. The reason it can take up to five sessions is because of often complex layers of each presenting problem. A person is like an onion, with many layers of limiting beliefs and each one of those layers needs to be peeled away to get to the deep root cause of a complex problem in order to be completely free of it.

For example, a client came to me to work on depression. We did a session on depression and he resolved the limiting belief that he’s ‘not enough’. Within a week, I reached out to that client and he felt free of depression, it was gone.

He still wasn’t happy because he had started to feel so much rage - the second layer. We worked in that second session to resolve the rage, moving him towards happiness but after the rage was resolved, a third layer surfaced- terror.

We did the third session on terror, at which point he was free. He felt happy and content, free to live the life he has wanted to live. For the first time in his life he felt free of mental illness.

Most of our problems have been with us our entire lives, often beginning at birth, and as badly as we want to be free and to live without the problem, it can take some patience, time and compassion to completely heal.

Understanding that we are made up of experiences that have created layers of hurt and limiting beliefs, helps in the healing process because it allows a compassionate curiosity as the different layers surface.

RTT works by using hypnosis to go back in the subconscious mind to discover the root cause of persistent challenges, to understand it, and then to use the power of the mind to let it go.

When this is done in hypnosis, the change to the neural pathways is fast and the change is felt rapidly.

RTT is also a very effective therapy that is designed to get results by discovering the root cause of why you have a problem. The problems we have in our life are created within us, to help us in some way. We are born on this earth, created by the universe, believing that all of our needs will be met, such as being loved, feeling significant, valued, protected, feeling that we belong, etc.

As hard as our parents try, they cannot meet all of our needs and we created limiting beliefs because of this. These limiting beliefs, though initially intended to help us, become ingrained perceptions and shape our present day struggles. These limiting beliefs are the reason that the problem exists today.

RTT goes back to uncover this root cause because once you have discovered the root cause, you can let it go and change it because just as your mind created the problem to help you in your life, your mind has the power to let it go.

In an RTT session, we utilize tools like Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) to not only release limiting beliefs through reframing, but also to establish empowering new ones and heal past traumas. NLP leverages the power of language to reshape thoughts and behaviors, creating rapid neural pathway changes when combined with hypnosis.

Using the power of language and reframing past limiting beliefs and a new way to see the past, healing happens and empowerment begins. By reframing past beliefs and gaining new perspectives, particularly those rooted in childhood, clients recognize their current autonomy as adults, free to make their own choices and to create the life they want to live.

This process fosters empowerment and initiates profound healing.

RTT uses psychotherapy to explore the past and to understand where the limiting beliefs are formed and why that led to  the problem today. Looking at the past, the thoughts and feelings are explored and processed. This exploration isn't merely a passive review; it's an active process of uncovering and processing deeply buried thoughts and emotions.

These unprocessed emotions hold significant meaning and power and are contributing to the problem today. Those feelings have been locked away since these experiences were felt and need to come out. “Feelings are either out or in and it’s time to get them out.”

Imagine your mind as a fertile garden, brimming with potential at birth. As you journey through life, experiences where your needs aren't met can introduce 'weeds' – limiting beliefs that spread, choking the garden with negativity and self-doubt.

Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT) acts as a skilled gardener, carefully identifying and uprooting these weeds, permanently clearing the space.

With the garden cleared, we then cultivate the seeds of your desired life. This is the transformative phase, where we plant vivid images and powerful feelings, painting a clear picture of what life looks and feels like without the burden of your past challenges. Your mind responds deeply to this sensory experience, fostering genuine and lasting change.

To solidify this transformation, the client listens to a personalized hypnosis recording daily for three weeks, a crucial period for establishing new habits.

Just as we removed the old, ingrained thought patterns, this recording reinforces positive beliefs, replacing the 'weeds' with a flourishing landscape of self-empowerment. This recording is not just a reminder of your desired life, but a potent tool for rewriting your internal narrative, ensuring the beautiful life you envision becomes your reality.

Can RTT help my teenager?

RTT is effective for teens because it offers tools and insights that can support them during one of the most challenging and formative periods of their lives. Not only do RTT sessions provide a safe space for teens to talk about their problems and their feelings but RTT helps teenagers get to the root cause of their problems before they endure a lifetime of problems. It helps them reframe those limiting beliefs using NLP, CBH, and psychotherapy tools, setting them free.

Teenagers often face intense emotional and social pressures, leading to issues like anxiety, low self-esteem, and behavioral problems. RTT's focus on identifying and addressing the root causes of these issues, rather than just treating the symptoms, can lead to profound and lasting change.

Teenage brains are highly adaptable, exhibiting significant neuroplasticity. Neuroplasticity is the brain's ability to mold, change and adapt. The brain is always able to learn new things, change beliefs and form new connections. For teens, RTT is effective because their brains are ready to learn new things, taking on new beliefs rapidly, and RTT sessions help them to understand what they don’t want any more and show them what they do want. Once they understand this, they create the new neural pathways of new beliefs, changing their feelings and habits.

One of the tools that makes RTT work rapidly for teens is hypnotherapy. Because the session is done in hypnosis, new neural pathways are created quickly and rapidly. Hypnosis is a quieting of the nervous system through a deep meditative, trans-like state. When the nervous system is quieted, the subconscious mind is at the forefront which makes them more receptive to positive change. In hypnosis, they can understand why they have their problem and then reframe it into a positive way of seeing it and letting it go.

At the root of every problem lies limiting beliefs, and these limiting beliefs become the new perspective, the way in which life is viewed. One teen consistently said, “No one likes me.” Or “People are always glaring at me.” This teen discovered that in her past, this limiting belief was created because of situations in school where she believed that she wasn’t good enough, that no one liked her. In one scene from her past, she was playing a song in an orchestra and messed up. The kids were all watching her and because of the belief that she wasn’t good enough, she saw them all glaring at her, creating a new belief that “people are always glaring at her.” This understanding helped her to see that because of this one event, she has carried this belief with her since elementary school and once she understood that, she was able to reframe this limiting belief, and let it go. She created new beliefs - “I am enough”, “I am likeable”, “I am significant”. These new beliefs are now installed within her and that is the new thought that replaced the old.

Every problem we have in our lives is created by the brain to help us in some way - to protect, punish or prioritize us. In an RTT session, this role is discovered, understood, and then reframed, providing new perspectives which creates a safe space for the body to let go of the problem.

RTT empowers teenagers by helping them understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings and behaviors. This understanding allows them to take control of their lives and make positive changes. RTT sessions empower the teen, helping them see that they don’t need to rely on the adults or peers around them to meet their needs. They can meet those needs within themselves, empowering them to be the confident, capable person that they were created to be.

What problems can RTT can help teens with?

Trauma

Everyone goes through trauma at some point in their lives, from physical trauma like injuries/accidents to an insult from a peer to a bully, the brain is keeping score of this trauma and holding onto it. The brain wants to hold onto this trauma forever in order to prevent it from happening again. When the trauma is stored in the brain, the brain is going to try and prevent that pain from happening again by triggering a response when the threat is present. These responses can be fighting, shutting down, becoming emotional or irrational, shutting people out, becoming aggressive, etc.

Because the brain wants to hold onto this forever, it is important to intentionally do some type of therapy to let it go. RTT is a tool that helps the brain and body heal from trauma by helping to process this trauma and to heal from it, moving through and past it, letting it go.

Low self esteem and lack of confidence

You see your teen as beautiful, talented, fun, smart, and incredible. You absolutely love them. But why can’t they see it? Sending your teen out into the world is incredibly challenging, especially when you know they struggle with their self esteem or confidence. You want them to succeed, to fell their best and to stand up for themselves when needed. What do you do?

Understanding that negative limiting beliefs are at the root cause of this low self esteem and is creating it is the first step. Those who struggle with this low confidence and low self esteem tend to have negative thoughts about themselves. They don’t believe that they are good enough, smart enough, pretty enough. RTT helps to understand these beliefs that are fostering the low self esteem and then install new beliefs empowering the confidence and positive self talk within.

Addictions

Teenagers are surrounded by peer pressure, family stress, and school stress. Their brains are in a growth stage, making them vulnerable to addictions. Kids will try vaping, smoking, taking drugs, pornography, video games, and even staring at their phones, to feel some kind of connection, or to feel that they fit in. This can quickly create an addiction, and if this addiction isn’t treated and resolved, it can go on with them throughout their lives.

Knowing your teen is an addict can be a scary feeling, and can also be overwhelming. Teens already have heightened emotions and they are constantly assessing what is best for their social life so the last thing they want is for a parent to get involved. Action is a must.

An addiction is moving you away from a bad feeling towards a better feeling. RTT works with addiction by discovering why the teen needs the addiction, what is the limiting belief that it is masking. In an RTT session, this is understood and then tools are given, insights are made, and empowerment begins. The client quickly sees that they don’t need the addiction to feel happy, that they can feel that on their own.

School success

Your teen leaves for school and as a parent, you have no idea how it will go for them. The peer pressures, worrying about their friendship situations, or doubting they will actually get their school work done. All you want is for your teen to thrive and to feel confident and successful. Imagine having them come home from school telling you how successful they were in math, or about the new friends they made. Imagine your child has a strong new found confidence, knowing who they are and being proud of themselves.

From success in class and on exams to easily talking to others at school and making friends, RTT helps empower teens by cheering them on from within, making them believe in themselves and installing within them the confidence they need to live the school life they want to live.

Sports Success

Is your child one of many who has been working hard at sports, going to practices and overcoming their doubts and their weaknesses to play and to compete? All you want as a parent is for them to enjoy the sport, to feel the success and to be proud of themselves. Many kids work incredibly hard at sports, playing club sports or just going out for PE. They may have the skills but when it comes to the actual games or tournaments, they hold back and don’t play their strongest, buckling under pressure.

Confidence is of utmost importance when it comes to success in sports. Kids buckle under pressure because they start to doubt themselves, hearing negative thoughts that are questioning whether they can succeed or actually make that play.  RTT helps them succeed by installing within them the reassurance that they have what it takes, that they are strong, capable, and they easily and effortlessly play the position they have trained to play.

Anxiety/ Stress

Anxiety is everywhere now and so many kids are experiencing it. While situational anxiety is a normal part of being a human, debilitating or constant anxiety is not. This anxiety can stop a teen from being social, playing sports, making friends, speaking up at school, being on time for their responsibilities, and more. It really prevents them from living in the present, feeling happy and confident.

From social anxiety to stressing about all of the life’s responsibilities, RTT gets to the root cause of the inability to handle stress and what is causing the anxiety and then helps the client to manage stress, believe in themselves and to let go of the limiting belief that is keeping them anxious. They will feel empowered in their capability to talk to others and to handle the stress put upon them.

Depression

Is your teen struggling with motivation? Are they grumpy and withdrawn? In our world today, depression runs rampant and is taking the lives of children all around us. It can be scary and no matter how hard you try talking to your child, they may seem to stay stuck in that low place of depression. What do you do? There are many tools for parents and more and more support coming out to help and as a parent, it is your role to find what is right for your child.

According to Marisa Peer, decompression comes down to three things: 1. The mean words you say to yourself. 2. Feeling disconnected or like you don’t belong. 3. Not following your passions, your heart desires. Sometimes depression is caused by all three.

RTT is extremely effective for depression because it really gets to the root cause of where this is coming from. There is so much healing just in this understanding. Once the root cause is understood, tools like CBT and NLP, reframing the limiting beliefs are us and the depression can be let go. The teen will no longer need it because as they install the new beliefs of positivity, they will no longer hear the mean words and they will begin to feel empowered.

Fears/ Phobias

Unlike other therapies that work on managing symptoms giving tools to get through each day, RTT aims to get to the root cause of the fear, discovering why it began.

A fear is a natural emotional response to a real or perceived threat. It's a primal instinct that helps us avoid danger. Fear is often rational and proportional to the situation but can often move into an irrational stage, which then turns into anxiety or mood changes. When fears become consistent, they can cause someone to panic, turn inward, avoid situations, shut down, and more.

A phobia, on the other hand, is an intense, irrational, and persistent fear of a specific object, situation, or activity that poses little or no actual danger. When a phobia is present, it often leads to significant avoidance behaviors. People may go to great lengths to avoid the object or situation they fear, which can limit their activities, social interactions, and overall quality of life. Even thinking about the phobic trigger can cause anxiety.

During an RTT session for phobias and fears, the teenager goes back to an event in their past that is the reason that the phobia or fear exists. This understanding can then be reframed and changed, empowering the teen to move forward with confidence and logic. The limiting beliefs that caused the fear/phobia make sense during the past events, but may be illogical today. When it is understood in hypnosis, there is compassion for the younger version of the teen, but then the logic comes in because they aren’t in the past any more. The experience is over.

Focus problems

RTT can be really helpful for focus and concentration problems because it aims to work with the subconscious mind to identify and rewire the root causes behind those issues. RTT discovers the root cause of the focus problems by going back into the past to see what happened, and what beliefs were created. A lot of focus issues aren't just about willpower or attention span. RTT helps uncover why you're struggling to concentrate. For example:

  • Maybe you were told as a kid that you're “scatterbrained” or “lazy” — and your mind internalized that.
  • Or maybe stress, anxiety, or fear of failure is creating a mental block.

RTT dives into memories and beliefs that have shaped how your brain sees focus.
